Mary Jane Galer's list for the New Cemetery area, compiled from the sexton's card file, says Mrs. C. Neuffer, a female, died age 71 (cause not reported) and buried September 19, 1872 in Section 1 (sic -- Section A), Lot 113, sexton James Lynah.

COLUMBUS, GA: Lists of People, 1828-1852, and Sexton's Reports to 1866 by Mary Jane Galer (published 2000), has a List of Owners of Negroes and their Names, 1847 From the City & County (that's Columbus & Muscogee), on p. 107 says Mrs. Neuffir held 3 persons: Mary & 2 children.

1860 census of Columbus, GA, Dwelling 16, Household 16 says William A Beach, a male age 40 born in CT, a Merchant holding real estate valued at $7000 & personal estate valued at $2500, with Caroline A. Beach, female age 29 born SC, Charles E. Beach male age 11 GA, Harannah Beach female age 5 GA, Viola Beach age 3 GA, Catharine Neuffer female age 58 born Germany, Charles F. Neuffer male age 26 SC a Clerk, George C. Neuffer male age 24 GA a Clerk (In 1870, Catherine is age 69 and still living with the family of her daughter & son-in-law, William & Caroline Beach. That census says Catherine was born in Wurttemburg.)

This grave probably has no inscribed marker. We know it is in Section A and not Section 1 because her son, Charles E. Neuffer, has a CSA headstone in A-113, at the east end of Autry G-87.
