Mr. Jennings Coy Benton Sr. 81 of Thomasville went home to be with the Lord on January 01, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 14, 1938 in Horry County, a son of the late Grover Cleveland Benton and Teasley Caines Benton. Jennings was a member of Thomasville Church of God and spent most of his working career in maintenance for many Universities. Jennings found much pleasure driving his tractor trailer from coast to coast. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and working with his hands building and remodeling homes. His handy work was simply amazing. He absolutely loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was often found trying to put a smile on their face which earned him the nick name “Trouble”. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Imogene Benton on January 02, 2006; a grandson, Jennings Coy Benton III on September 11, 2018 and a brother, Robert Benton on November 18, 1971. Surviving are his loving wife, Nika Riley Benton of the home; daughter, Rhonda Churilla of Industry PA; son, Jennings Coy Benton II (Melissa) of Burlington; step-daughter, Lisa Clodfelter and step-son Roger Clodfelter (Rita); sisters, Dalma Rabon (Richard), Sonya Hill (Mike) and Patricia Loflin (Huey) all of Thomasville; brothers, Carldon Benton (Frances) of Thomasville, Bill Benton (Helen) of Lexington and Samuel Benton of High Point; grandchildren, Mylana, Jonathan, Cassidy, Megan, and Kerrie and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Thomasville Church of God with Rev. Alan Greene officiating. The family will greet friends on Sunday night from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at J C Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jennings’ memory to Hospice of Davidson County. Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.jcgreenandsons.com.
