PRATTVILLE - James William Hill, Sr., age 82, of Prattville, Ala., formerly of Tuscaloosa, died November 6, 2017, at home. Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Life Pointe Church of God, 10050 Hwy. 11 North in Cottondale, Ala., with Rev. Eugene McCarley, Rev. Steve Smith, and Dr. Mike Johnson officiating. Private burial will be in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tivis Artemus Hill and mother, Cleo Englebert Hill.
Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Melba Beard Hill; brother, Gene Hill (Charlotte); daughter, Debra Smith (Steve); son, James Hill, Jr., (Cathy), Andy Williams (Kelli) and Sonjia Kennedy (Keith); grandchildren, MeJai Smith Findley (Caleb), Brandon Smith, Olivia Hill, Garrett Hill, AJ Williams, Cody Williams, Kaci Williams and Anna Katheryn Williams; and great-grandchildren, Avalyn, Eliza, Jace, Camden, Gavin, Hazel, Stella, Heidi and Hank.
James William Hill, Sr. served as rifleman/M.P. in the United States Marine Corps, played baseball in Duncanville, first class welder (Shelton State) and the owner of Roto-Rooter Tuscaloosa/ Hill Enterprises for over 30 years.
J.W. Hill was a member of the Alberta City Church of God for over 50 years. He served his church as Sunday School Superintendent, Pastor's Council, YPE President and Trustee.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Tuscaloosa Roto-Rooter Family, Otice Vail, Gerald Kimbrough, Larry Hunnicut, Jim Hyndrix, Wayne Alexander, Dan Chandler, Terry Cook, David Cook, Todd Golden, Spanky Stewart, and J.C. Hunter.
