Mr. Charles A. Conrad, a prominent lawyer, died on Friday morning at 9:20 at his residence, 172 Carondelet Street. Mr. Contract had been suffering for several years from an affliction of the liver and had lately returned from Blount Springs, which he visited in hope of finding relief. Mr. Conrad was born at Bay St. Louis, Mississippi in 1837, and was the son of Mr. Charles M. Conrad, who was Secretary of war during the presidency of Mr. Fillmore. Mr. Conrad was a descendant of George Washington’s family, and was also a relative of the family of General Robert E. Lee. Mr. Conrad took an active part in the late war and after surrender returned to New Orleans and resumed the practice of law. In June, 1867, Mr. Conrad married Norma Penn, a daughter of Mr. Alfred Penn and sister of ex-Governor D.B. Penn. Mr. Conrad was a member of the Benevolent Association of the Army of Tennessee and took great interest in the affairs of the association. He was also a prominent member of the Boston Club. Mrs. Conrad survives her husband. The funeral took place on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. from his late residence and was largely attended. The remains were interred in the Girod Street Cemetery.

Note: Girod Street Cemetery (Defunct) was deconsecrated in 1957, with unclaimed tombs/graves being removed and reinterred at Hope Mausoleum on Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Mr. Conrad may or may not rest in Hope Mausoleum.
