George Dean Ebelsheiser, 94, of Hedrick died at 12:10 a.m. May 20, 2018 at his home.
He was born June 27, 1923 in Keokuk County to George and Ollie Darner Ebelsheiser. He married Mary Barr June 24, 1944 and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2017.
A resident of Hedrick most of his life, he farmed several years in Martinsburg and Farson areas. He owned Dean's Royal Blue Grocery in Hedrick for 12 years and worked for Keokuk County Commission before retiring in 1986.
Dean loved having his family around and was always happy spending time with them. His main hobby was mowing the yard and cleaning away the snow.
Surviving are three sons, Ron (Vicki) of Casa Grande, AZ, Dan (Chris) of Tracy and Rick (Kathy) of Ottumwa; three daughters, Joyce Handy of Urbandale, Cheryl Copeland (Keith VanEnglenhoven) of Ottumwa and Vickie (Neal) Loes of Ames; 5 granddaughters, Michelle Wymore, Julie Kendall, Krista Roden, Laura Smith and Alyson Vosberg; 6 grandsons, Jason and Douglas Ebelsheiser, Ryan and Joel Loes, Steven and Craig Copeland; 29 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Brenda Ebelsheiser and Amy Ebelsheiser; a son-in-law, Dick Handy; two brothers, Warren and Dallas Ebelsheiser; three sisters, Neva Beggs, Helen Harris and Mary Etta Ritzenthauler.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church with Pastors Tim Schoepf and Bill Hornback officiating. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery in Hedrick.
Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hedrick Fire Dept. or Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church.
