Francis M. Bonham, age 24, a resident of Eddyville, Iowa, enlisted July 24, 1861, in Company I, 7th Iowa Infantry. He mustered out July 12, 1865, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Francis and his wife, Jemima Crook, were married in 1856 in Wapello County, Iowa. They spent a number of years in Kansas before relocating to California in the 1880s.

San Jose Evening News, Oct. 7, 1905. "BONHAM—In San Jose, October 5, 1905, Francis Marion Bonham, beloved husband of Mrs. J. A. Bonham, father of Mrs. Amelia Souder of Santa Cruz; Ed. S. Bonham of San Jose; Albert and Burton Bonham of Kansas; grandfather of ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, a native of Ohio, aged 68 years. Funeral today at 3 p.m. Interment Oak Hill."
