Alice was born on December 28, 1929, in Manfred, ND, to Fred and Lydia (Schuh) Ziegler. On September 23, 1948, she married William Stubert and they created a family life together on a farm north of Regan. There they milked cows, raised chickens, grew grain, and always had a big garden and there they raised their four daughters. Alice lost the love of her life when Willie passed away October 31, 1972. She remained on the farm until all their daughters had graduated from high school. We were all so proud of her for passing her GED exam on her first attempt. In September 1983, she moved to Bismarck where she has lived since. She found work at the Comfort Inn on her first job application and worked there several years before working for Papa D’s Pizza and later the Mother Goose Shop. Until her final days, Alice embroidered and sewed quilts, tailored and repaired clothes for her frequent customers, and crocheted afghans and hanger tops for hundreds of towels.
Alice is survived by her daughters Linda (Paul) Krueger, Karen Gangl, and Susan (Daryl) Moser; four grandchildren, Stephen Gangl (Sarah Woodson), Natalie (Ron) Price, Kelsey (Keith) Blattner, and Sarah Hornberger. She is survived by brothers and sisters Harold, Arnold, Betty Waller, Janet Wagner, and Roger; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her daughter, Sheila (Bruce) Hornberger; parents, Fred and Lydia Ziegler; her brothers, Walter, Ervin, Herbert, and Bill; sisters, Freida, Martha, Esther Wall, and Norma.
True to her spirit, Mom would want you to remember her by having lunch with a friend, taking a walk in nature, or observing the moon and stars. Memorials are preferred to Abused Adult Resource Center in Bismarck.
