He was the son of William Alkire and Elizabeth (Moore) Alkire. He was born in Virginia on Oct. 3 1783. He married Elizabeth Douglas on June 20, 1809 in Franklin County, Ohio. He farmed Pickaway and Madison Counties in Ohio. At the age of 43, he died leaving his wife with seven minor children.
