Patrick Knight was a convicted murderer on Death Row. Patrick Knight and an accomplice, Robert Bradfield, broke into an elderly couples home, Walter Werner-58, and his wife, Mary Werner-56, on August 27th, 1991, almost 16 years earlier, in Amarillo, Texas. The couple was Patrick Knight's neighbors. They locked the couple in their basement. The next day they drove around in both of Werner's vehicles, trying to obtain money. That night they bound and gagged the couple, blindfolded them, and forced them into their van. He made them kneel, then shot each of them at close range, in back of the head with a handgun, execution-style. He dragged their bodies into the ditch on the side of a road and returned to his trailer house, next to the Werner's home. Then he went to sleep, as if nothing happened, void of concience. During an investigation into the Werner's disappearance, Knight was questioned, eventually confessed, and led the Police to their decomposing bodies. His accomplice got two Life Sentences, Patrick got the death penalty. His final meal consisted of: Fried Pork Chops and Chicken, Garlic Toast, and Ice Cream. His final words were: "I said I was going to tell a joke. Death has set me free. That's the biggest joke. I deserve this. And the other joke is, that I am not Patrick Bryan Knight and y'all can't stop this execution now. Go ahead, I'm finished." Holding back tears, his voice wavering, he thanked God for his friends and made a plea on behalf of fellow inmates he said were innocent. He died by Lethal Injection at the age of 39.
