Mr. Jimmy A “Jimbo” Grooms, age 78, a resident of the Southport Community in Mt. Pleasant, left for his heavenly home on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Magnolia Healthcare, surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 23, 2019 at 11AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Rick Points officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2019 from 3-7PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on July 9, 1941 in Maury County, Jimmy was the son of the late Robert Grooms and the late Maggie Norman Grooms. He retired from the State of Tennessee Highway Maintenance Department after thirty-five years of service. He enjoyed riding tractors and worked part time farming until his health failed him. Jimmy loved to hunt deer and trade animals at flea marts, where he was known as “Chicken Man.” He loved to sing ditties and tell stories and had a nickname for everyone. Jimmy was baptized and a member of the Church of Christ.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of forty-three years, Priscilla “Tina” Fox Grooms; children: Mike (Lori) Grooms of Columbia, Kelley Grooms Hubbell of Columbia, Julie (David) Hutcherson of Columbia, Ritchie (Windy) Grooms of Columbia, Buddy (Beth Hutcherson) Grooms of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Ashley (Shawn) Stewart, JT (Lyndsey) Caskey, Cody Hutcherson, Dusty (Raqi) Grooms, Justice Grooms, Ryan Hutcherson, Danny Grooms, Dylan Grooms, Maggie Sullivan, Shelby Flewallen and Nathan Flewallen; nine great grandchildren; brothers: Bobby Grooms, David (Casey) Grooms, Ronald Grooms, Floye (Roger) Malugin, Joye (Danny) Davidson, and Leon (Rita) Grooms.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Sylvia Pigg, Linda Aydelott; brother, Donald Grooms; and beloved pet, Nellie.

Pallbearers will be: JT Caskey, Cody Hutcherson, Dusty Grooms, Ryan Hutcherson, Danny Grooms, and Dylan Grooms. Honorary pallbearers will include: Shawn Stewart, Bill Salnave, Roger Aydelott, Jackie Rowland, Jeff Baker, John Moser, John Gillbreath, and the past and present employees of the State of Tennessee Highway Maintenance Department.
