Mary C. (Berninger) Bowman, age 90, of Ridge Road, Bloomsburg died early Sunday morning, May 16, 2010 at her residence surrounded by family members. She was a resident of her home on Ridge Road for the past ten years, and formerly of her home on Jefferson Street for over 50 years. Mary was born on Friday, November 7, 1919 in Locust Township, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Zehner) Berninger. She was a member of the 1937 Graduating Class of the Locust Township High School. For over 40 years, Mary was employed by J.C. Penney as a sale person and a window display designer. She was a member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ on Seventh Street in Bloomsburg, where she served as a greeter and formerly a member of the Buckhorn Lutheran Church. She was preceded by her late husband, David C. Bowman on December 10, 2007, and by her two daughters, Debbie Kay Bowman and Sherrie Lea Bowman in 1970, a nephew whom she raised, Rodney Riffel, a sister, Margaret Riffel and a brother, Wilbur Berninger. Mary is survived by many nephews and nieces. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 19 at 11 a.m. from the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, located at 260 East Seventh Street in Bloomsburg with her pastor Rev. Stephen D. Engelhardt officiating. Graveside services will be held in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Orangeville. The immediate family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions in Mary's name are suggested to: Trinity Reformed U.C.C. Building Fund, 260 E. 7th Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
