He was born in Newark, but lived in Jersey City since a young age. Until ten years ago, he was employed as a mate in the ferry service of the Pennsylvania Railroad. In recent years, he was a salesman. He was a member of the William J. McGovern Association of the First Ward, Third Ward Regular Democratic Organization, St. Peter's Church Holy Name Society, Jersey City Elks, and the Dante Alighieri Society. He had long been active in St. Peter's Church as was well know for his interest in charitable and church activities.
He was the beloved husband of Mae (nee Mazzetta) DeLear; devoted father of Daniel DeLear and Eileen DeLear; devoted step-son of Pasquale Galdieri; dear brother of Sam DeLear; dear half-brother of James Gladieri, Mrs. Mary DeNuccio, Mrs. Loise Bennette, and Mrs. Anne Legnold.
