Jeanette Holtzclaw was born on March 9, 1937, in Lubbock, Texas, to Vival and Charlie Mills(biological father) and daddy, Floyd Lee Jennings. Jeanette married Allen Holtzclaw on March 30, 1955, in Big Spring.
Jeanette was the youngest of 4 children, and dearly loved her siblings. She enjoyed attending family events, reunions, and neighborhood parties.
Jeanette's modeling photos appeared in Vogue magazine and several department store catalogs. She completed beauty school and was a hairdresser for several years before moving to the country. Jeanette was full of life, and nothing was beyond her ability or imagination. Numerous vegetables from the abundant garden were canned every year. She learned to work concrete and made the porches and driveway at her home and the neighbor's homes. She built a storage building and helped neighbors with many tasks. Jeanette was active in square dancing for many years and frequently made matching dresses for the club ladies along with painting matching shirts for the men. She made Halloween costumes for herself and Allen, as well as her kids or grandchildren. Jeanette co-owned a bookkeeping business and retired after many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a fantastic artist who enjoyed painting with oils, enamel, and sprays paint. Other hobbies included camping and anything Allen wanted to do. Perhaps her favorite activity was cooking, especially baking cakes, pies, and Christmas candy. Always the caregiver, she would mail or deliver cakes and other goodies to those she held dear. No one ever left her home hungry or thirsty. Her greatest joys, aside from Allen, were the birth of a grandchild and Christmas. Her children and grandchildren were her immortality and her legacy.
Her love for family and friends was unending. She firmly believed that you could do anything if you set your mind to it.
She is survived by her daughters, her Steel Magnolias: Debbie (Steve) Gould, Marletta Dalton, Mary Mitchell and husband, Bobby Blagg; seven grandchildren, Joe (Tony) McRorey, Jr., Paul McRorey, Sean (Michelle) McRorey, Brandi (David) Sauceda, Leslie Runyon, Megan (Colt) Sue, Lauren (Scott) Miller, Crysta Rodgers, and Blake Mitchell; 27 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vival and Floyd Lee Jennings, Birth Father, Charlie Clay Mills and husband of more than 40 years, Allen Holtzclaw.
One thing that was not addressed is that while growing up, us cousins had more than one momma. We were all so close and shared everything. My mom, Aunt Mary and Aunt Billie were moms to all of us. Let me share the names of all my brothers and sisters. Ronnie, Barbara, Tony & Steve Bramblett; Linda, Bobby, Ben, Troy, Bo & Be Young; Cindy, Kat & Pat Mills; and of course Debbie, Marty & Mary Holtzclaw. In our growing up years, we didn't know about 1st, 2nd & 3rd cousins, we were all just "cousins", FAMILY. Our family was huge and our mommas held us all close.
