Wendell was born in Bluffdale, Utah, on February 19, 1919. He was the second of 12 children children born to Orin and Florence Hamilton Crump. As a young man, he learned the value of hard work as he helped on the family farm. He never lost his desire to make things grow and always had a garden, which he would share with his family and neighbors. He also developed a love of music and dancing which were of great comfort later in life.
Wendell was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Central Atlantic Mission. After his return, he met his sweetheart and life-long companion, Emily Allen. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on June 30, 1950. Wendell was an active member of the church all his life and served his Heavenly Father in many roles. His favorite position was as a Blazer teacher, where he influenced the lives of many young men as he shared his love of the gospel with them.
Wendell worked for Granite School District for 30 years. After his retirement, Wendell also served his community by volunteering as a teacher's aide in both Rolling Meadows and Granger Elementary schools, where he once again became a role model for many young people. Wendell had a life long love of sports and was an avid BYU fan.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Emily; three sons, Steve (Martha), Randy (Edette), and Kent (Glenda); two daughters, Peggy Carlson and Loreli (Bill) Riley; 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Eldon and Lorin Crump; and his sisters, La Rue Mousely, June Hardman, Carol Bancroft, Naomi Powell, Marge Prowse and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Crump. His parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded Wendell in death.
