Norman D. Wingo, a longtime resident of Gregory, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the age of 80 following a long bout with Lung Cancer and Emphysema. He was a lifetime smoker. Norman Wingo was born in Fairgrove, Missouri in 1925 and found his way to Texas twice. The Army Air Force arranged his first visit in 1943 when he trained as a pilot at various Texas locations. His second visit to Texas was to accept a job as foreman at the Reynolds Metals Company in Gregory. For twenty-five years he worked at the power plant making sure that the gasoline engines that powered the massive generators supplied electricity without interruption. Norman was active in the community of Gregory, organizing the first Little League for Gregory boys and coaching teams for many years. He also was one of the founding Board Members of the Gregory Housing Authority. In his spare time he was an avid golfer and fine cabinetmaker. His wife Imogene preceded him in death in 1996. Survivors include his five children, eight grandchildren, one step-grandchild; one great-grandchild; one-step great-grandchild, and another great-grandchild on the way. Norman is also survived by three sisters and one brother. Graveside services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, September 9, 2006 at the Gregory Cemetery.
