WIFE OF HARMON, RICHARD JOSEPH
A/1C US AIR FORCE

Sheryl Ann Hansel Harmon was born on April 8, 1943 to LeRoy and Beatrice Jennie Mangold Hansel on a farm near Elkport in Volga Township in Clayton County, Iowa. She attended grade schools in Elkader and M t. Vernon, Iowa. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1961.

She met the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Harmon. The two embarked on many adventures together. They managed several apartments and facilities in California, Indiana and South Carolina. They both settled down in Jacksonville, Florida as real estate agents.

Sheryl was a very active member of her church, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, FL. She attended church regularly, went to Bible studies, participated in the church's game day and enjoyed having lunch with the ladies of the church after Sunday services. She helped in the church's thrift store and visited members who were not well enough to attend services. She was always dropping whatever she was doing to help others. She often put other's happiness first, over her own. She will never be forgotten and always loved. Sheryl Ann is a Security Blanket that can never be replaced.

August 7, 2018 was the day that we heard the word that no one wants to hear…cancer. It was devastating, but we, with the help of her doctors, devised a plan to fight it. Sheryl went through weeks of chemotherapy, radiation, PT scans, CT scans and x-rays and had the surgery to remove the tumor. She came home with a feeding tube for 5 weeks, during which she could not eat or drink anything orally. It was a very difficult task, but she did everything she was supposed to. After putting up a good fight, we got the news that the cancer had spread to various organs. It was very aggressive. She got one more round of chemotherapy after that. Her body fought and fought, but the cancer took her away from us. She passed away on July 14, 2019 at 7:40 p.m. at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a step daughter, Kay Harmon Laabs. She is survived by her sisters Phyllis (Ivan) Freitag & Diane (Roger) Breitsprecher of Elkader, Iowa, a brother Paul (Barbara) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. An "adopted" family, daughter Elizabeth "Sissy", son Doug, and granddaughter Genevieve (Gigi) Greenwood. She has two step granddaughters, Allison (Jim) and their children Rosie, Jay & Jack Hessel of Missouri and Wendy (Carlos) & their children Nicholas & Kaylyn Villa of Jacksonville, FL. She had many nieces, nephews & cousins whom she loved, as well as, her many friends and Brothers & Sisters-in-Christ.

Sheryl's Celebration of Life was held Noon, August 31, 2019 at- St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6317 103rd St., Jacksonville, FL 32210. National Cremation
