Helen Frank Dassinger, 92, of Billings, passed away on Jan. 24, 2019. She was born Feb. 23, 1926 in Dickinson, North Dakota, to Anton and Catherine Wandler Frank. She attended St. Pius Catholic School, in a small village of about 300 people, run by nuns. Later, the school was renamed 'The University of Schefield', where many kids attended 1st grade through high school. Helen always said she was a proud graduate of Schefield University.
On Nov. 8, 1943, she married Anton 'Tony' Dassinger at St. Pius Church. They farmed the Gladstone area for over 11 years. In 1956, they moved to Billings, where Helen worked for Buttrey Safeway Intermountain Store for 20 years before retiring in 1982. After working, Helen and Tony traveled and enjoyed life together. Five years after retiring, Helen decided to go back to work for Billings Catholic Schools, Elder Grove School, and Rose Park School.
Helen enjoyed crafts, making many afghans and quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of all, though, she loved to dance.
She was a member of the Big Sky Polka Club and a charter member of St. Pius Church.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents; husband Tony; daughter Mary Lou Dassinger; brothers Jack, Ralph, Emil, and Valentine Frank; sister Jean Arms; daughter-in-law Bonnie Dassinger; son-in-law Dick Jacobson; granddaughter Jodi Jacobson; and grandson Andrew Schneider. She is survived by her children: Janice Jacobson of Billings; Jim Dassinger of Aurora, Colorado; Don (Lucinda) Dassinger of Vancouver, Washington; Renae (Jim) Schafer of Gillette, Wyoming; Dean (Patty) Dassinger of Billings; and Sandra (Richard) Cleveland of Billings. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Helen is now dancing again to the 'Homecoming Waltz' with her Tony.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Billings. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Helen's name to St. John's Lutheran Ministries or St. Pius X Catholic Church.
