Cleante Janutolo died on Saturday morning, June 19, 1971 in an Oak Hill hospital. He had moved from Italy to Fayette County in 1906 to learn the practical experiences of running a company from his uncle, Antonio Janutolo. Cleante had just graduated from an Italian Technical School trained in architecture in 1906. He was a retired stone mason and bricklayer, building contractor, and highway construction worker, who also engaged in the coal mining business.

He was a former director of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, charter member of the West Virginia Contractors Association, and for 28 years, was a member of the Fayetteville Town Council. He was the recipient of the "Star of Solidarity" from the Republic of Italy. He was a veteran of World War I in the Army Engineer Corps. He was a member of Fayetteville Masonic Lodge Number 57, Scottish Rite and Beni Kedum Shrine of Charleston, Fayetteville Rotary Club, Lafayette Post No. 149 of the American Legion, director of the Fayette County National Bank, and Fayetteville Federal Savings and Loan Association. He attended the Methodist Church at Fayetteville.

He was born in Piedacavello, Italy on April 22, 1890 to the late Clemente Janutolo (Deceased) and Maria Peraldo-Janutolo (Deceased). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nidia Zorio-Janutolo (1894-1946).

He is survived by his daughter, Delores Janutolo-Cottle (1929-1989) & husband J. E. Cottle (1931-1993) ; and two grandchildren.

Final rites will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 20, 1971 at the Dodd-Payne Funeral Home Chapel in Fayetteville with Rev. Billy Reed Wickline officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park in Fayetteville.
