Civil War Veteran. Enlisted on May 28, 1861, for two years' service, and mustered on October 19, 1861, into Company D, 2nd Regiment, Maine Infantry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private. Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: First Battle of Bull Run; Peninsula Campaign; Second Battle of Bull Run; Battle of Antietam; Battle of Chancellorsville. Mustered out on June 9, 1863, at Portland, Maine.

Enlisted on December 2, 1863, and mustered on December 24, 1863, into Company L, 2nd Regiment, Maine Cavalry (Union). Enlistment Rank: Private. The regiment left Maine in April 1864. Duty in the Defenses of New Orleans, La., until May 26, 1864. Moved to Thibodeaux, La., May 26. Duty there and scout and picket duty in the District of La Fourche by detachments until July 27, 1864. Detachments from the regiment moved to Algiers, then to Pensacola, Fla., July 27-August 11, and duty there until March 1865. Expedition from Barrancas to Marianna September 18-October 4, 1864. Battles, Skirmishes, and Engagements: Marianna, Florida (September 27, 1864). Mustered out on December 6, 1865, at Barrancas, Florida.
