After her death, he married Esther M. (Kamrath) Laabs on March 3, 1982 in Renville Co, MN. Esther was born mar 3, 1915. They divorced in Meeker County on July 14, 1994.
Verne owned the Gamble Store and the Phillips 66 station in Cosmos prior to retirement. He was a charter member of the United Methodist Church of Cosmos.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Randy Koehler of Brainerd; grandchildren, Randy Fredin, Delgene Fredin, Zachary Koehler, Melodee Koehler, and Kristopher Koehler; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Heath of Sartell, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther (Totman) in 1981; and son Donald in 1983.
