Mary Catherine Abel (1801 - 1866) was the wife of William Abel (1802-1850), and both were born in Germany according to the 1850 Census. William died that same year 1850 and the Census lists head of household William Abel age 48, wife Catherine age 49. and George Abel age 17 who was also born in Germany; plus children born in NY as Elizabeth Abel age 16, Louisa Abel age 13, Marget Abel age 12, Jacob A. Abel age 10, John Abel age 8 and Nancy M Abel age 7. It's estimated here that because William was alive for the 1850 Census and died September the same year, then William and Catherine Abel came from Germany to the US after George was born in Germany and before daughter Elizabeth was born in NY; Elizabeth was age 16 in 1850 and calculates William and Catherine's immigration between circa 1833-1834. The 1868 map of Montgomery County shows WM Abel farm adjacent to J Abel farm and Spring; however, William and Catherine are buried on the J Abel farm. A historic painting "The Lands of John Abel" depicts the original farmstead where the cemetery is located. William Abel's burial in 1850 at lands later owned by son, John Abel (farm painting dated 1891), suggests Abel family farmsteads were well established prior to 1850, as early as upon immigration around 1833.
