Arthur Michael “Mick” Ghere, Sr, 75, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013.

He was born June 28, 1938, in Oilton Oklahoma to Ella Jewel McGreger and Arthur Maynard Ghere.

Mick was the first of four boys. When Mick was 8, the boys lost their father in an oil field accident. Jewel began working as a switchboard operator and Grandma McGreger moved in to help raise the boys. Mick graduated from Oilton High School in 1956 and then went on to attend Murray State Junior College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma where he was active in football and a leader of the ROTC unit there. He later graduated in 1961 from Oklahoma State University (Oklahoma A & M) with a degree in Industrial Engineering and later received his MBA from Oklahoma City University.

Mick was a lifelong fan of OSU, especially its football program. While at Murray State Junior College, Mick met Jessie Mae Sifford. They were married in 1961 and had four children: Teresa Kay, Shelly Ann, Arthur Michael Jr. “Mike”, and Scott Anthony. Mick started his career at Western Electric, but soon moved to General Electric and then to Lowrance Electronics in Tulsa. The family then moved to Long Beach, Mississippi where he worked as a manager at C.E. NATCO. They then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1980, and were blessed with a fifth child, Amanda Grace.

In 1981. Mick married Susan Emery on October 12, 1995, becoming the step-father to Fritz Schaub and Lyndsay Holder.

Mick was an entrepreneur in the petroleum industry. He was involved in several pipeline and exploration ventures, including the first public service natural gas filling station in Oklahoma. He was adored by his wife, Susan, his children and ten grandchildren, who were the pride of his life.

Mick was preceded in death by his mother, Jewel Ghere Holcomb, and his father, Arthur Maynard, as well as his brothers, David Alan and Marion Keith “Pete”, his half brothers, Jacob and Harley and half sister, Maxine. M

ick is survived by his wife, Susan, his children: daughter, Teresa Ghere Ramadan, daughter, Shelly Ghere Walters, son, Mike Ghere and wife, Holly, son, Scott Ghere and wife Amy, daughter, Amanda Ghere Harris and husband, Brandon, son, Fritz Schaub and wife Elizabeth, and daughter, Lyndsay Holder and husband Geoff; grandchildren, Whitney Walters Wolfe and husband Aaron, Morgan Walters, Hannah Walters, Arthur Michael Ghere III “Trian”, Elijah Ghere, Conner Ghere, Andie Ghere, Kate Schaub, Clare Schaub, and Hank Holder.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Oklahoma State University Foundation, 400 South Monroe, PO Box 1749, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74076-1749 in the name of Mick Ghere.
