Buck Duane Hunt, Sr, 92, formerly of Canadian, died Tuesday, November 26 in Clarksville, Texas.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Mr. Dalias Dickson. Due to the holiday weekend and weather forecast, a private burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne.

Buck was born to Oscar and Mary Jane “Janie” (Polk) Hunt on February 3, 1927 in Hartshorne. He grew up in Hartshorne and Talihina.

Buck served in the U.S. Navy as a Gunnery Sargent during World War II. He worked in road construction for many years. He worked for Cummins Construction Company for 12 years, was a part owner of Glover Construction, and ran the asphalt plant in McAlester.

He was a member of the Crowder Church of Christ. His proudest moment was being baptized at the Crowder Church of Christ by Mr. Bill Banks who became a life long friend. He attended the Hugo Church of Christ the last few years.

No matter where he lived or traveled, Buck considered the McAlester area his home.

Buck had a special place in all the hearts of those here today. May we remember the good times as often as we remember him, and know he is in heaven.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents: Oscar and Janie Hunt; brothers: Walter Hunt, Ralph Hunt, Warren Hunt, Melvin “Dutch” Hunt, Robert Hunt; and sisters: Lucille Gibron, Margie Hamilton, and infant Mildred.

He is survived by Martha Davis of Hugo; sons: Buck Hunt, Jr. and wife, Deborah of Poteau, Leon Hunt and husband, Gregory Winkler of California; daughter: Rhoda Bailey of Millville, New Jersey; grandchildren: Buck D. Hunt, III of Omaha, Nebraska, Angela Turner of Monroe, Oklahoma, Josh Hunt of Huntsville, Alabama, Jessica Hunt of Poteau, Donna Weaver and husband, Paul of Millville, New Jersey, Eric Dyerly and wife, Regina of Colorado Springs, Colorado; several great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
