George A. Baker, 89, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 2:18 p.m., Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Arthur Home, Arthur, IL
Graveside and Military Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 29, 2019 at the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL with Pastor Lanny Faulkner officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL.
George was born on October 4, 1930 in Atwood, IL, the son of Lyle and Eva Corwin Baker. He married Margarietta Vargas on April 3, 1964 in Chicago, IL. She preceded him in death on August 31, 1982.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Delmar Baker and sisters: Ruth Ellen Eades, Ethel Barnes and Madge Fultz.
George graduated from Atwood High School in 1949. He served his country as a member of the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. George attended Southern Illinois University and received an associate degree in technology in 1957. He worked for his brother doing cement work in Illinois. George and his wife relocated to Miami, Florida where he worked as an automobile equipment operator for the Dade County Personnel Department. He enjoyed reading.
