The death certificate for Charles Beris says his surname is Bess, and father is Solomon.
Solomon Bess can be found in 1903 city directory, at the correct address.
But this surname than disappears, and is replaced by both Bares and Bears.
Solomon Bears died in 1909, buried in Har Nebo. Death certificate says surname is "Bearis".
I can't confirm that this is really the father, but it looks close enough.
The 1912 city directory lists Sophia Bears, widow of Solomon, with 3 children.
The 1910 census at same address as the city directory entry, lists her name as Celia though.
And "Celia Baers" died in 1919, buried in Har Nebo. Informant Samuel Bares.
But while Samuel Baers married in 1903, he changed name to Bears, by the time of the 1910 census.
