Funeral services for George R. Mayfield, age 89, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25th, 2017 at the Church of Christ in Fairview, Oklahoma with Preacher Jerry Bradford officiating. Arrangements made by Fairview Funeral Home, Inc.

George was born December 2nd, 1927 in Hulbert, Oklahoma to William Henry Mayfield (Willie) and Cora (Chapman) Mayfield and passed from his earthly home on November 20th, 2017 at the Seiling Nursing Center in Seiling, Oklahoma.

George was raised on the farm and rode horses with a work crew most of his early years. He graduated 8th grade in Stillwell, Oklahoma. He was drafted into the Army at age 19 and cooked for the army for 13 months. He received his discharge papers on March 25th, 1947. George then married Orlena Berldean Davis on May 28th, 1949 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and to this union in 1957 they added 4 boys, Ron, Wayne, Ed and Tim. George worked on the Ft. Gibson dam, cut trees and built forms for cement. He also worked with the night crew in a smelter, all while going to school. George then worked in a funeral home in Lawton, Oklahoma. George and his family moved to Bartlesville to attend Central Christian College in 1952-1955 and began his career preaching in 1955 in Dewey, Oklahoma. He preached in Dewey, OK, Meade, KS, Enid, OK, and Des Moines, IA. George and Orlena moved and made their home in Fairview, OK 22 years ago in 1995 and George preached in Fairview, OK and Okeene, OK.

George is survived by his sons Ron Mayfield and Donna (Enid, OK), Wayne Mayfield (Indianola, IA), Ed Mayfield and Shannon (Fairview, OK), and Tim Mayfield and Vanessa (Thorsby, AL), 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sisters Laura Gertrude and Odean.

Memorials can be made to the Seiling Nursing Center through the Fairview Funeral Home acting as custodians.
