Jahile E. Yeager was born in 1869.

He lived his entire life in Sonoma County. He was a member of a pioneer Sonoma County family. J. E.’s father, Nicholas Patterson Yeager, came to Sonoma County from Tennessee in 1852.

He was the-twin brother of the late Nicholas G.Yeager, one-time Northwestern, Pacific police agent and also members of the Santa Rosa police department. Nicholas died in 1939.

He lived in Geyserville, then, from early 1944 in Cloverdale, California. In March, 1945, Mr. and Mrs. Yeager have moved into the Rose McPherson property,

In 1902, the election results for the Washington Township Constable, Sonoma County, was E. D. Cook 77, B. J. Davis 24, Jahile Yeager 100, H. L. Walker 5. (Press Democrat 23 Nov. 1902)

In 1904, “Constable Jahile Yeager went to Geyservilie as a witness in a trial there on Thursday afternoon.”

In 1916, J. E. was reported as a “nightwatch in Sebastopol.”

In 1918, the Healdsburg Tribune, Enterprise and Scimitar reported, “Jahile Yeager, former city marshal of Sebastopol, is now conducting a restaurant in Sausalito. 'Hyle' is reported to be coining money, and his friends are glad to know that he is prospering.”

In 1924, J. E. served on the jury of a land fraud case.

In 1925, J. E. was part of an “old-fashioned mask ball given at the Community hall” in Alexander Valley. J. E. was dressed in Indian attire as the squaw of Friday Cook, “the big Indian chief.”

He served as constable of Cloverdale township for many years.

In 1931, J. E. a contract to carry the mail between the postoffice and the depot.

J. E.’s poem, “School Memories” was read by Mrs. Leroux at a Grange meeting in Geyserville in 1931.

In 1934, J. E. ran against Joseph Homer Cake.

In 1938, J. E. ran against Julio E. Angeli.

J. E. was known to scores of people throughout the County as “Hile” or “Hyle.”

In ill health for several years, he died Tuesday, October 1, 1946 at his Cloverdale home.

Funeral services were held at, Chapel of the Chimes, Santa Rosa, on Thursday, October 3, 1946.

Survivors included his wife, Anne Yeager; daughter Dorothy Shriver, sister Cynthia E. Beasley; and grandchildren Leland and Francis Shriver. Many nieces and nephews are listed in J. E.’s obituary found in the Digital Newspaper Collection.
