Carl Schrader
NELIGH - Services for Carl Schrader, 97, Neligh, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ here. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at Beyer Funeral Home in Neligh.
He died Monday, June 25, 2007, at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh.
Carl David Schrader was born Dec. 21, 1909, at Lincoln to Charles H. and Louie (Evans) Schrader. He moved with his family to Antelope County in 1913 and attended School District 72.
Carl married Fae Todd on May 19, 1934, at the home of her parents. To this union, two children were born, Jerry and Mary. The couple farmed near Neligh for many years and also collected antiques which they displayed in their museum on their farm. Fae died in 1978.
Carl saw many changes to farming over the years. He and his brother were some of the first farmers in te area to embrace modern technology by switching from horses to tractors. Later in life, he would spend his time restoring old Steam Tractor Engines.
Carl was married to Mary Beemer on Sept. 22, 1979, at Gravity, Iowa. She died in 1991. On March 11, 1995, at Zapata, Texas, Carl married Erma Bradshaw. She died in 2002.
Carl was a member of the original Antelope Memorial Hospital Board and worked very hard raising funds and arranging to build the hospital. He was a county commissioner for nine years, secretary and treasurer of the rural fire board, school board member for District 56, a member and later chairman of the township A.S.C. and spent time on the state board of health. For many years, he was a member of the Lions Club where he held several offices. He was an elder at the Church of Christ and a member of the Weekend Wanderers camping group, and for many years, he split his time between Nebraska and Texas.
Carl enjoyed his grandchildren, every one of them, and always looked forward to spending time with them.
Survivors include his children, Jerry and Beverly Schrader of Neligh, and Mary and Robert Taylor of Murphy, Calif.; two brothers, Thomas and his wife, Elaine of Neligh, and Richard and Santa Barbara, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bill, Harry and Ray, and two sisters, Thelma and Alma.
