Enlisted on 3/11/1863 at Lewisburg, WV., he was mustered into Company H, 22nd Virginia Infantry, as a Private.
Wounded In Action (seriously in foot) 8/26/1863 in skirmish at White Sulphur Springs, WV.
Absent, wounded in hospital on all subsequent Rolls until Present on March & April 1864 Roll.
Deserted early 7/1864; name appears on list of POWs released from Lynchburg, VA ., military prison; these men were confined by Provost Marshal there, then pardoned by CSA President and returned to their units.
Deserted once again in 9/1864; Oath of Allegiance 12/14/1864 Charleston, WV.
Postwar he was farmer, then blacksmith.
On 5/12/1911, giving his age as 65, he applied for a Confederate Soldier's Pension, stating that he "Never left until the surrender in April 1865." He was approved for $21.60 per annum.
The 22nd Virginia Infantry Regiment, formerly known as the 1st Kanawha Regiment, was organized and accepted into Confederate service in July, 1861. Its members were from the counties of Jackson, Craig, Nicholas, Alleghany, Wyoming, and Boone.
