Daniel Samuel Martin "Dan" Borthick was born on November 21, 1923, the son of John Samuel "Sam" Borthick (1875–1955) and Buna Priscilla (Outlaw) Borthick (1881–1967).

He was married 1st on November 14, 1943 to Evaline Ruth Stoner (1924–2002), the daughter of Lucille (Steep) (Stoner) Nerren (1908–2005) and her 1st husband Marcus Stoner (1904–1927). Dan was married 2nd to Juanita Stokes.

Dan was a life-long farmer and member & deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church as well as a later member of Barren Plains Baptist Church. He was president of the Eastern Dark Fired Growers Association for 31 years, member of the Robertson County School Board, member of the Nashville Milk Producers Board of Directors, president of the Tennessee Dairy Association, member of the Robertson County Board of Equalization for 26 years, member of the board of Robertson County Farm Bureau and a member of the Robertson County Hospital Board of Trust.

Living in Springfield, he was 95 years old when he passed away on November 14, 2019 at Morningside of Springfield.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his 1st wife, son John Martin Borthick, brothers Joseph W "Joe" Borthick (1913–1974), John Franklin "Frank" Borthick (1916–1986) and Fredric Lee "Fred" Borthick (1928–1979) and by his sisters Nora Mae (Borthick) McCarthy (1902–1978), Janey (Borthick) Hoover (1910–1967), Alice "Elizabeth" (Borthick) Holmes (1904–1989) and Buna "Cary" Borthick (1919–2008). Survivors included his 2nd wife, a daughter and her partner, a married son, two grandsons, two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at Robertson County Funeral Home, and burial was in Springfield Memorial Gardens.
