He was born March 15, 1938 in a Houston hospital to Luther and Norma (LaBlanc) Butaud of Baytown.
Mr. Butaud graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1956. He attended St. Mary’s Seminary for two years, then joined the United States Air Force in 1958. On September 2, 1960, he married Fonda Sims. After working for HISD for 25 years serving as the Assistant Director of Maintenance, he came home to Goose Creek ISD and was Assistant Director of Maintenance for 6 years until his retirement in 1996. “Poppy” as he was known to his grandchildren and all of their friends, enjoyed shopping with his oldest granddaughter, playing golf, singing and dancing in the grocery store, singing at church and, well, singing anywhere really. His amazing voice will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Norma Butaud, and his in-laws, Roger and Bernice (Clark) Sims. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Fonda, his son, Arthur Butaud, Jr. and his wife Kelly of Arlington, daughter Kellie Butaud Skarda and boyfriend Scott Williams of Baytown, and daughter Susan Butaud Lawrence and her husband Michael of Baytown. Poppy will be missed by his granddaughters, Ashlee Glatter of Baytown, Lauren Moorehead and husband Jared of Arlington, Sydnie Butaud and fiance Cole Cook of Baytown, Alyssa Skarda of Orlando, FL, and great granddaughter, Hope Thorne of Baytown.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Keith Woods, Michael Kovalcik, Michael Lawrence, Daniel Morales, Cole Cook, and Ganny Canizares.
