A native of Durham, she had lived in Buncombe Co. since 1953 and was a 1953 graduate of Womens College (UNCG). She was a former school teacher with the Buncombe County Schools and retired from the Department of Social Services with over 30 years of service. She was a very active member of the First Christian Church of Asheville where she served in numerous positions and was an Elder Emeritus. She was also active with the Kenilworth Area Harvest House. She was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Jeannette Irene Young Andrews.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Eugene Gene Jarvis of the home; daughters, Holly Lynn Jarvis McTaggart of Asheville and Kristie Lee Jarvis King and husband Jim of Asheville; 4 grandsons, Zachary and Matthew McTaggart and Jacob and Adam King; brother, Dr. Harold Andrews and wife Jeanne of Chapel Hill; sisters, Nancy Beard and husband Dr. William Beard of Wichita, KS. and Martha Taylor and husband Peter of Cape Cod, Mass.. She was also survived by 3 Asheville area nieces, Libby Jones, Cathy Barnhardt and Patty Long and several other nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the First Christian Church of Asheville with the Revs. Sharon Waters and Jack Daniell officiating.
