Accident kills area man
ALBERTON -- Rodney King Riggs, 29, Alberton, died early Friday after his car left a county road about one mile east of the Petty Creek Junction, between Alberton and Missoula.

The Highway Patrol said the vehicle left the road, skidded broadside, went out of control, left the road and rolled.

The accident was discovered at 1:49 by Bill Haul of the Missoula Search and Rescue Unit.

Riggs was taken to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, where he died at 4:03 a.m.

He was born Jan. 20, 1950, in Dover, N.J., the son of Jerre and Herbertha Riggs. He moved to Montana 11 years ago and had lived in Alberton for the past five years.

He was a graduate of the University of Montana and a member of the Motor Supply softball team in Missoula.

He was self-employed

Survivors include his wife, Linda, and a 2-year-old daughter, Polly Jean, both of Alberton, his parents, Sparta, N.J., three brothers, Jerre Jr., Jetur and Joel, all of New Jersey; and a sister, Molly, New Jersey.

The body will be cremated at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Missoula. Memorial services will be Monday at 4 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Alberton.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Geraghty Funeral Home.
