He was born May 31, 1955, in Randolph County. He was the son of Rex and Janet (Cook) Collins, both survive. On November 1, 1990 in Allen County he married Ruth A. (Cornwell) Collins, who survives.
He was employed by DiamlerChrysler in Kokomo as a machine operator since 1998. Prior to his employment at Chrysler, he worked for the Cass County Sheriff's Department in Logansport and had also worked as a correction officer in northern Indiana.
He served with the Marines in Vietnam and was an excellent marksman. He became a sharpshooter while in the Marines and also earned a Purple Heart.
He was a member of UAW Local 685 Kokomo, I.U.O.E. Local # 103, Kokomo, and the American Legion in Farmland. He enjoyed building Character Models and painting. He also enjoyed his dogs.
In addition to his wife, Ruth A. Collins, Walton, he is survived by a daughter, Lena (Kemplen) and husband Richard Schneider, Fort Wayne; a son, Jimmie Kemplen, Walton; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew and Sarah Schneider, Fort Wayne; his parents Rex and Janet Collins, Winchester, a sister, Debbie and Ron Schultz, Union City, Ohio; his grandmother, Edna Modesitt, Winchester; his mother-in-law, Kathryn Skeens, Walton; an aunt, Susie Ross Richey, Indianapolis; an uncle David Cook, Muncie; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by one brother Johnny.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 6th, 2007 at the Deer Creek Cemetery in Onward, with the Rev. Tony Winters officiating. Burial will follow the services. No public visitation is planned.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation or Alzheimer's Research. Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Walton assisted the family with arrangements.
