J.P. THOMPSON

J.P. "Jiggs" Thompson, was born April 8 1912 at Ford, Iowa near Des Moines. He was the son of John Thompson and Esther Bunce Thompson. He pass ed away September 8, 1977 at the Rosary Hospital in Corning, Iowa, where he was admitted after suffering a stroke while working in his yard at Prescott. He was 65 years, 5 months and 2 days of age.

On April 16, 1930 he was united in marriage with Dorothy Hobbs at Des Moines. This marriage was blessed with the birth of one son, Richard James Thompson.

"Jiggs" and Dorothy lives in Des Moines until July of 1956 when they moved to Spencer on a construction job. They finished there work their work there and in late 1956 moved to the Adams County area, and have lived here since that time, first around Villisca and Nodaway and the Prescott.

J.P. served in the United States Navy during World War II and was proud of his service time. He was a member of the Metz Post #544 at Prescott of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and son, Richard; three brothers, Clarence, Fred and Richard Thompson, all of Des Moines, and four sisters, Bertha and Clara Mabrier of Des Moines and Myrtle and Mary Kimberlin, both of whom live in Caddo Mills, Texas. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Everett Hobbs of Mason City and Howard Hobbs of Illinois; a sister-in-law, Beulah Pratt of COrning, as well as many, many nieces and nephewson both sides of his family, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Prescott United Church Sept. 12 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Larry Davidson officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Prescott, Iowa. Metz Post #544 American Legion, conducted military rites.

Music was provided by Clarice Outhier, organist and Betty Pettit, vocalist. Pallbearers were Herbert Thompson, Paul Thompson, Norman Thompson, Earl Thompson, Herman Thompson and Kenneth Thompson.
