William E. Betz, 89, St. Joseph, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, at a local health-care center after a long illness.
Mr. Betz had been employed as a maintenance foreman at Dugdale Packing Co. for 27 years. He retired in 1972.
Born Oct. 7,1907, in Chicago, Mr. Betz had resided in St. Joseph since 1929. Formerly, he resided in Trenton, Mo.
He was a member of the Moila Shrine Temple, 32nd-Degree Scottish Rite, and was an avid bowler.
Mr. Betz was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Jane Watsabaugh; a daughter, Billie J. Kendall; his parents, Elmer and Thora M.; four brothers, Clifford, Vernon, Chester and Carl; three sisters, Doris Reese, June VanDevender and Bonnie Mang.
Surviving: two sons, Herbert E., St. Joseph, and William F., Rhode Island; a daughter, Beverly Gilpin, Overland Park, Kan.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Baker, Spickard, Mo., and Lee Evelyn Engleman, Galt, Mo.; and a brother, Wendell, Chillicothe, Mo.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph.
