Mildred Rachel Murphy Coats, 92, of Burlison, passed away on Friday, November 8. She was born November 29, 1926 to Dutes and Agnes Lavelle Murphy and was one of seven children. Mildred married James Edward Coats, Jr. on May 28, 1948, sharing 71 years together.
In addition to her husband, she leaves one son, Jimmy (Anita) Coats and one daughter, Cindy York. She was a loving grandmother to Jason (Rachel) Coats, Melissa (Jim) Gribble, Cristi (Brian) Oswalt, Brandy (David) Bailey. Great grandchildren are Hunter Tune, Matthew and Evan Coats, Molly and Oliver Oswalt, Hayden and Trey Bailey and step great-grandchildren Alex Gribble and Haley Redden. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.
Her earlier years were spent working at Charms and Warwick Electronics. She was also a member of the Gilt Edge Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Murphy Coats (1952-1968); three brothers, Eugene Murphy, Butsy Murphy and Bill Murphy; three sisters, Grace Billings, Juanell Cromwell and Betty Griffin and a son-in-law, Micheal York.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12 at the Covington Funeral Home chapel with interment to follow in Covington Memorial Gardens.
