Charles Bird, 74, of Keokuk died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.

Born Feb. 25, 1933, in Keokuk, he was the son of Harry and Georgeanna Pearl Schofield Bird. On Jan. 21, 1955, he married Elizabeth Hutson in Keokuk.

Mr. Bird worked for Steel Castings in Keokuk, retiring after 39 years in 1995 as a maintenance crane operator. He was family oriented and assisted in raising his granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Linda Fojtik of Keokuk; one granddaughter; two sisters, Maxine Allen of Hamilton, Ill., and Ruth Hall of Keokuk; three brothers David Brown, Verne Hutson and Claude Hutson; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one grandson, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral for Mr. Bird will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Vigen Memorial Home with the Rev. Bill Hauser officiating.
