Joseph Edward Gray, of Afton, 80 years of age, died yesterday morning at a local hospital. He was a native of Albemarle County, son of the late Henry and Ida Gray.

He leaves his wife, Mary Ann Gray, and eight daughters, Mrs. Ruth Houchins of Afton; Mrs. Effie Via, of Vinton; Mrs. Gertie Hunt, of Covesville; Mrs. Annie Berry, of Nellysford; Mrs. Mary Smith, of Iron Gate; Mrs. Lola Brown, of Roanoke; Mrs. Hazel Lucado, of Ypsilanti, Mich.; and Mrs. Cora Quick, of Lynchburg; six sons, Larcy, John, William, Stuart and Caskie, all of Afton, and Harmon of Lyndhurst; four sisters, Mrs. Nellie Wickline of Covingston; Mrs. Lilly Yocum, of Harrisburg, Pa.; Mrs. Esther Luck, of Covingston; and Mrs. Florence Kent, Spring Valley; two brothers, J. W. Gray of Afton, and T.J. Gray, of Richmond; 45 grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 P.M. Tuesday from Preddy’s Funeral Home. Interment will be at the old Gray farm at Afton. Elder Robert B. Atkinson and Elder Theran I. Olsen, of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, will conduct the services.
