JACOB DERSHAM KEZIA A. DERSHAM

Following a long life of usefulness devoted to duty and righteousness death on Saturday, Feb 11, 1905, removed to the spirit land Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Dersham, pioneers and highly esteemed residents of this vicinity. Living together happily many years it was accorded this worthy couple, in the fainess of years to pass into eternity almost at the same time, the wife passing away at 3 a.m. and the husband at 4:45 in the afternoon. Death occurred at their home on Orange street. The funeral services held at Grace United Evangical church Tuesday forenoon was largely attended and very impressive. The pall bearers for Mrs. Dersham were: Freeman Evans, John Bollen, Samuel Goembel, Aaron Rapp, Marcus Burton, and Leonard Sieben; those for Mr. Dersham were: A. Withrow, John W. Withrow, Valentine Gersiner, R. M. Bessee, M. Obrecht and Henry Stamberger. A quartette composed of Miss Ada Sommers, Miss Emma Gerstner, Messrs. F. E. Berner and Fred Scheithe rendered appropriate and consolling selections. The pastor, Rev. John Divan, delivered the funeral sermon, fitly speaking of the Christian character and career of the departed whose, memory was being honored in the service, and whose life work was now closed. The pastor gave the following biographical sketch of Mr. and Mrs. Dersham. Jacob Dersham was born in Pennsylvania, June 5, 1823. He came to Illinois in 1854 and has resided in Geneseo since 1903.
He was married to Miss Polly Raser, Nov. 10, 1843, and to this union eight children were born: Mrs. Alfred Phelps, of Geneseo, Mrs. Lou Peters of Kansas, Solomon Dersham, of Iowa, Mrs. Abbie Brinker of Ohio, John W. Dershamn, of Colorado, Mrs. Sarah Yarger, of Kansas, Mrs. Linnie Smith of Kansas and Adam Dersham of Kansas. He leaves also eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Kezia A. Dersham, nee Depue, was born October 3, 1830 in New Lisbon, Ohio. She was married to George W. Mann about 56 years ago; to this union two children were born, Mrs. Lizzie M. Crosser, of Burr Oak, Mich, and Mrs. Josephine Fuller of Phenix township, this county. After the death of her husband she was married to Nathaniel Anderson and to this union three children were born. One died in infancy: the others are C. K. Anderson and Mrs. Bert Hanna of Geneseo. She leaves also _____ grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Dersham were married Nov. 19, 1879, and together they have lived for more than twenty-five years, and in death they were not divided, for they both passed to their eternal home, Saturday, Feb. 11, 1905, Mrs. Dersham dying at 3 a.m. and her husband at 4:45 p.m. He was not conscious of her death at the time. The cause of her death was congestion of the lungs and the cause of his paralysis of the bowels. Father and Mother Dersham were lifelong Christians. At death they were honored members of Grace United Evangical church of Geneseo, Ill. They gave many cheering accounts of their hope in Christ, and realized they were on the shady side of this life, but looked hopefully forward to the time when death would bring them to a full realization of their faith in Christ and his promises.
The remains were conveyed to the Pink Prairie cemetery in Phenix township for interment.
There was present from out of town at the funeral a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth L. Crosser of Barr Oak, Mich., and two nieces, Miss Josephine Ziegler and Miss I. Curkendall of Moline.
