Edith Christine Conner, age 83, formerly of Ottumwa and Eddyville, Iowa passed away March 24, 2007, at her home in Florida where she had lived since August 2005.

Edith, the daughter of Perry and Mary Bloomquist Headley, was born Nov. 6, 1923, near Fairfield, Iowa. She attended school in Jefferson County, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1941. July 18, 1942, she married Robert "Bob" Conner at Lancaster, Mo. Edith and Bob started their life together in Ottumwa, where she worked for John Morrell Company. In 1959, they moved to Des Moines, where Edith worked for and retired from the State of Iowa. In retirement she worked for the Des Moines School District as a substitute cook. She did this until 1995.

In October 1999, Bob passed away at their home in Des Moines and Edith never adjusted to the loss. In 2000, she sold her home in Des Moines and purchased a home near Eddyville to be closer to her family. She lived there for five years, during which time her health began to fail. In March 2005, Edith was diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer's Disease, which eventually led to her demise. Edith enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, flower gardening and coffee time with friends. She attended the Bethel Baptist Church in Oskaloosa while she lived in Eddyville.

Her family includes her children, Stephen E. and Joyce Conner of Eddyville; Ann and Tim Morrison of Winter Springs, Fla.; her sister and brother-in-law, Eva "Babe" and Bob Goodwin of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Muriel Headley of Chatham, Ill. She was blessed with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Eileen Headley; her sister and brother-in-law, Kathryne and Herb Turndahl and a sister-in-law, Mary Headley.

Her body was cremated and her ashes were interred at Memorial Lawn Cemetery May 25, 2007. A Celebration of Life gathering and coffee time will be held to remember and honor Edith's life from 8:30-9:30 a.m., Saturday morning, July 14, 2007, at the Heartland Inn Meeting Room, Highway 63 North, Ottumwa, Iowa. At 9:30 a.m., those in attendance will proceed to Memorial Lawn Cemetery to place a floral tribute of remembrance on Edith's grave.
