Jill Elaine Bauer passed away on November 2, 2019, in Howards Grove, Wisconsin, after battling cancer.

Jill was born on July 5, 1950, to parents the late Esten and Mary Alice (Grove) Fortney. Although born in Long Beach, California, she was raised primarily in Convoy, Ohio, and graduated from Crestview High School. On July 6, 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, David M. Bauer. She attended St. Thomas Lutheran church for many years.

Jill was a loving wife and mother and dedicated to caring for her family. She was an avid reader and part-time crafter who loved to travel both domestically and internationally. She traveled extensively throughout Europe while she and David lived abroad for 13 years calling the countries of Germany, England, and Wales home. Upon retirement, the couple settled in Florida, but continued to travel, primarily domestically and often with family. She particularly enjoyed learning new things culturally, from the local music to the history and architecture but especially the cuisine. No matter where Jill was, she was warm and welcoming and made friends. Her circle of friends was as diverse as the places she visited.

Jill is survived by her husband of more than 51 years, David Bauer of Orlando, Florida; and children, Mark (Amy) Bauer of Van Wert, Ohio, Tricia (Brian) Frink of Wisconsin and John (Missy) Bauer of Iowa. She was known as Nano to 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Other surviving family include: Pam (Dave) Herminghuysen of Van Wert, Ohio, Jack (Tracy) Fortney of Van Wert, Ohio, Jill Fortney of Van Wert, Ohio, Dr. Richard (Lorraine) Bauer of Texas, Sharyn Bauer of South Carolina, Brent (Sarah) Bauer of North Carolina, and Philip (Diane) Bauer of South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Fortney.

Family and friends are encouraged to gather on Wednesday, November 13, from 6-8 pm at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home. Brief funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 14, at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO).
