Mrs. Odom was born to Lucille and Wiley Bell in Daisy, Evans County, in 1930. She graduated from Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, Class of 1946 and attended Georgia Teacher College, Statesboro, Class of 1949.
Della Mae Bell married Albert Odom while attending college and they both worked in the education systems for the next 30 years. Known far and wide to family members, friends and even a few strangers as Mema, she was quick to remind you to use your manners and to make sure you went to church on Sunday.
Albert always played golf on Sunday so we are pretty sure she is looking to make sure he made it through the pearly gates despite his Sunday golf playing. Mrs. Odom was a member of First Baptist Church in Hinesville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert William Odom.
Survivors son Phil Odom (Pamela: children, Ralph, Danielle, Kenny and Karyn) of Hinesville; two daughters, Phylis O. Brown (Edward: children, April, Ginny and Casey) of Shellman Bluff and Pam O. Mitchum of Shellman Bluff; eight great-grandchildren; and an extended family of many nieces and nephews, some who have been referred to as a "bunch of Greens."
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington.
Her funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Byler officiating. Burial will be in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens, Hinesville.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Odom's grandsons and great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the American Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org/donate
