A former longtime Grinnell, Iowa resident, Vinnie Eaton Powell, age 89 died in a Colorado Springs, Colorado hospital. She had lived in Colorado Springs for the last two years. She had been a resident of Grinnell for over 50 years.

Vinnie White was the daughter of Nathan Linzy and Elizabeth Hutt White. She was born on a fam near Lynnville, Iowa where she lived until her first marriage.

She was married to Horace Leroy Eaton on September 26, 1900 at Barnes City, Iowa. To this union were born two children; Versa Beryl and Horace Claire. Horace died in 1906.

She was married to James Homer Powell on February 19, 1913 at Newton, Iowa. To this union were born three children: Elizabeth Pauline, Lowell Dwight and Dorothy Rachel. They moved to Grinnell, Iowa from Searsboro, Iowa in 1915. They were owners of the Powell Hotel until James retired in 1940. He died in 1956

She was a member of the Methodist Church, Worthwhile Club, Needle Workers Club and Beulah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star all in Grinnell.
