From 1931 to 1936, he was president of the Illinois Milk Dealers' Association and president of the Illinois Dairy Products Association in 1937. In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth and to the four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1949. Not was not a candidate for re-nomination, he returned to his business pursuits. He was elected mayor of Macomb in 1949 and resigned after serving two years.
