Josephine Hernández, age 95, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, was called to her eternal resting place on Monday, October 23, 2019.
Josephine was born on Friday, February 8, 1924, in Fort Collins, CO, born to Dolores and Edith Ayala.
As a young adult, she sought independence and moved from her parents' home and traveled to California where she worked as a welder for Boeing during World War II. Her journey then led her to settle in Albuquerque where she met her husband, Guadalupe Hernández.
Josephine enjoyed walks, sitting out in the warm summer sun, trips with her siblings to Nevada where she loved to gamble and take in the sights. The holidays were always a special time to spend with her family.
Josephine is survived by her sons, Richard Hernández (Phyllis) and Carlos Hernández (Mary), her daughter, Anna Ortiz (Gerard), grandchildren, Monica Torres, Eli Hernández, Karen Montoya-Paisano, Kellie Hernández, Lawrence Hernández, Aubrey Hernández and Richard Hernández and siblings, Gladys Velarde, Pilar Chávez and Johnny Ayala. Josephine leaves behind nine great-grandchildren.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe and brothers, Carmen Ayala and George Ayala.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019. A Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m. Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW. Followed by interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Josephine's name to the Good Shepard Center (www.gscnm.org).
