William Carlee Hammond went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2019.
Bill served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Steuben County 1138 during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he worked a Giant Food Markets for more than 38 years as a butcher.
In his retirement, he volunteered and served on numerous committees showing his love and commitment to his city. Bill was an advocate for the Paralyzed Veterans Association earning one thousand hours of volunteer service.
Bill’s hobby was antique cars, namely Chrysler, owning seven classic cars.
Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Jo Ann Hammond; parents: Omer and Opal Hammond; and two sisters: Vonda Penley and Emma Faye Sharitz.
Survived by: Son – Tim Hammond; Daughter – Tammy Horton and husband, Mitchell; Son – Randy Hammond and wife, Lori; Sister – Judith Ann Calhoun; 4 Grandchildren: Chris Russell, Jessica Schaus and husband Sam; Jacob Hammond and wife, Brittany and Cody Horton; 1 Great Grandchild: Ayden Russell; and several nieces and nephews
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 7:00pm with Wayne Bledsoe officiating. Bill will be laid to rest on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 11:00am at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of the Apostles. Military rites provided by the American Legion Post 3/265.
Pallbearers: Tim Hammond, Randy Hammond, Mitchell Horton, Jacob Hammond, Cody Horton and Sam Schaus.
