Constance Worthington Hart Goodwin, 102, formerly of Heritage Commons, Boston Road, Middletown, and Maple Avenue, Durham, died at Middlesex Hospital on Monday (July 2, 2007). Constance was born in Passaic, NJ on June 28, 1905, daughter of Charles Gardner and Grace Roosevelt (Fowler) Hart. Connie lived most of her life in Durham. Prior to her marriage she attended St. John's School in Mountain Lake, NJ, and Emerson College. Following her marriage she attended Barnard in New York City. While her spouse served in the U.S. Army, Constance worked in Social Services with the American Red Cross and at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. Constance was predeceased by her husband, Albert Hooker Goodwin, and sister, Gertrude Hart Day. She is survived by a son, Richard Hooker Goodwin of Meriden; great-niece Catherine Tuohy of Massachusetts; niece Gertrude Clark of Florida; nephew R. Schyler Goodwin IV of South Carolina; a very special cousin, Jonathan Field of East Hartford; great-great nieces and nephews, and many friends. A memorial service celebrating Connie's life will be held at the Church of Epiphany, 196 Main Street, Durham, on Saturday, July 14 at 10 a.m. Private graveside services will be held in the Hillside Cemetery in Thomaston at the convenience of her family. Donations in her memory may be made to the Durham Historical Society, P.O. Box 395, Durham, CT 06422; the Durham Public Library, 7 Maple Avenue, Durham, CT 06422; or the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
