Died, of the prevailing epidemic, in the vicinity of Caughnawaga, Montgomery county, on the 14th inst. Mr. John Fonda, 73d year of his age. 1813-02-26 Albany Register

Imprisoned in 1775 by Alexander White, the Sheriff of Tryon County, for striking one of White's servants in defense of his land... much to the displeasure of the Whigs, who some one hundred strong, went to the jail and forced his release. John and his brother Adam were captured by the British in 1780 when they came into the Mohawk Valley, raiding and burning houses. John was released in a few days but Adam was taken to Canada as a prisoner (with about 100 others)and held for over a year; upon his return, Adam settled on a farm near Fonda and John settled in the eastern part of Fonda; John Fonda who had been an officer in the early wars, served in the Associated Exempts under brother Capt. Jelles Fonda at the Battle of Oriskany. He also served as a committee man of Tryon County.
