Of Rockville, MD since 1934, died November 11, 2004 at the National Lutheran Home. She had been a resident of the home since March 2002. She was the wife of the late Leon F. Looper, who died May 10, 1986.
Born on September 22, 1909 in Clear Spring, MD, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Ann Oakman Mills. Her family moved to Washington Grove in 1911 and she grew up on the family farm.
Mrs. Looper attended a one room school in Washington Grove. She was a 1924 graduate of Rockville High School (now Richard Montgomery High School) and she rode the train from Washington Grove to Rockville at attend high school. She was a graduate of Strayer Business School in Washington, DC.
Mrs. Looper was secretary for nearly 40 years for R. Edwin Brown, Attorney at Law in Rockville.
She was a member of the Rockville United Methodist Church for over 50 years. In her early years, she served on various boards and committees at the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Ora Ann Shoemaker and husband, Charles of Lewisdale, MD; two step-grandsons, John P. Shoemaker and wife, Ashlie of Austin, TX and Marc J. Shoemaker and wife, Tami of Union Bridge; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Looper was the youngest and last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by one sister and seven brothers.
Friends may call on Sunday, November 14, 2004 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Olin L. Molesworth, P.A. Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Grove on Rt. 27 South of Damascus. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Carroll Gunkel. Pallbearers will be Marc J. Shoemaker, Glenn R. Looper, Stephen L. Preffitt, William F. Robertson, Fred Magruder and C. Edward Henline, honorary pallbearers Edgar N. Pool and Glenn C. Haynes. Interment will be in Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville.
The family requests the OMISSION of flowers. Expressions of sympathy be made to Damascus Help, PO Box 126, Damascus, MD 20872. If flowers are sent she loved carnations and roses.
